What is the difference between Standard, Electric and Dual Fuel heated towel rails?STANDARD TOWEL RAILS A standard heated towel rail connects to the pipes of your central heating system and is heated by hot water being pumped into the bars from your heating system. Standard rails are indicated as such on our site with a little blue triangle on the image of the towel rail.ELECTRIC TOWEL RAILS Electric heated towel rails do not connect to your central heating system and are therefore suitable for accommodation without central heating or a room with no pipework. Electric rails connect to your household mains electricity via a fused spur, not a 3-pin plug. The towel rail is filled with water which is heated by the electrical element. We strongly recommend you use the services of an electrician to help install an electric towel rail as this is not a job to be taken lightly. Our electric towel rails are available with thermostatic variable heat and non thermostatic single heat elements (explained here). Electric rails are indicated on our site by a little yellow triangle on the image of the towel rail. DUAL FUEL TOWEL RAILS A dual fuel (aka a dual use) heated towel rail is basically a combination of a standard and an electric towel rails. They are connected to your central heating system and also to your household mains electricity. The main benefit of dual fuel heated towel rails is you have the option of choosing which energy source powers your towel rail. For example, in winter you are more likely going to have the central heating on, which will automatically heat the towel rail. In summer, however, you are less likely to have the central heating on. In this case you can simply power the towel rail using the electrical source when you need it rather than going to the effort of switching on your central heating. Our Dual Fuel towel rails are available with thermostatic variable heat and non thermostatic single heat elements (explained here). Dual Fuel rails are indicated on our site by a little green triangle on the image of the towel rail. What are 'pipe centres'?The term ‘pipe centres’ refers to the distance between the centre points of the two pipes that connect your heated towel rail to your central heating system. For example, if you currently have a radiator in your bathroom, it normally has two pipes (one at either end of the radiator coming out of the the floor or wall) that connect it to the central heating system. Measure the distance between these two pipes, then, when purchasing a heated towel rail, it’s always best to select one on which the ‘pipe centres’ measurement matches up. Of course, it is usually possible to adjust your central heating pipes, however there is often extra work involved in doing this. We provide the pipe centres measurement in millimetres in all of our product descriptions to make it easy for you to get it right first time. You can view where the pipe centres are on a heated towel rail by looking at this example.Do the heated towel rails come with a guarantee?Yes, our designer rails come with a 10 year guarantee and all others come with a 5 year guarantee. In the unlikely instance that something does go wrong, please contact us on info@chrometowelrails.com or 0141 227 6763. PLEASE ENSURE YOU KEEP PROOF OF PURCHASE WHEN BUYING FROM US! The guarantee covers you for a replacement towel rail. Please note that over time, manufactures may change elements to improve the product therefore the replacement may have a slight variation in terms of bar patterns.Do the towel rails come with all the necessary parts? All of our heated towel rails come with wall brackets and screws to allow you to wall mount your towel rail. They also come with a bleed valve and a blanking plug. The towel rails are well packaged and covered in bubble wrap with protective corners and delivered in a sturdy cardboard box. What BTU/Wattage power do i need from a heated towel rail? There is no simple answer to this question because of there being so many variables from room to room and house to house, however we recommend two ways in which to calculate the right BTU or Wattage for your room.1. We recommend that you need 100 Watts of power to heat one square metre of your floor space. Let’s assume your room is 2metres x 3metres. 2metres x 3metres = 6 square metres 6 square metres x 100 Watts = 600 Watts required for your room. To get the BTUs just multiply your Wattage by 3.41, so 600 Watts x 3.14 = 1884 BTUs 2. The second way you can calculate the heat you need can be done by putting the required information about your room into this heat loss calculator. How long will it take to receive my towel rail?Order your heated towel rail before 2pm and we guarantee next day delivery. If your chosen towel rail is out of stock, we will notify you and let you know the estimated dispatch date. Can i specify a certain time to have my towel rail delivered? You can specify the day you wish your heated towel rail to be delivered, however we cannot commit to delivering at a certain time of day. However, in general, deliveries are made in the morning and collections are picked up in the afternoon. What do i do if my towel rail is broken, not what i ordered or if it doesn’t arrive? Please contact us immediately on 0141 227 6763 or info@chrometowelrails.comWhat area does your free delivery policy cover? We will deliver any heated towel rail on our site via APC or City Link courier for free to anywhere in mainland UK. For anyone ordering outside of mainland UK (including Northern Ireland), we will contact you to inform you of the delivery cost.Do the prices displayed include VAT?Yes, all of our prices displayed on our website are inclusive of VAT.What is the difference between single heat (non-thermostatic) and variable heat (thermostatic) elements? This essentially means whether you have the option or not of changing the temperature on your heated towel rails. The option to have single or variable heat elements are available on all of our Electric and Dual Fuel rails only.Single heat (non-thermostatic) elements are the cheaper option and they heat up until they reach 65°C. The towel radiator maintains it’s temperature at 65°C until you switch it off at the mains. Variable heat (thermostatic) elements are more expensive but you get the option of varying the heat output. The element has buttons that allows you to easy set the temperature to 20°C, 30°C, 40°C, 50°C, 60°C or 70°C. Do I also have to buy new valves if i buy a heated towel rail? No, you do not have to buy new valves if you already have valves from an old radiator or towel rail as you old ones will fit. However, from an aesthetic point of view, you may wish to replace your old valves to complete that brand new look. That choice is up to you! What is the difference between straight valves and angled valves? In the vast majority of cases, if your central heating pipes come from below (out of the floor), buy straight valves. If your central heating pipes come from behind (out of the wall), buy angled valves. What’s the difference between BTUs and Watts? These are the two scales for specifying heat outputs.BTU stands for British Thermal Units and is a basic measure of thermal energy. 1 BTU is the amount of energy needed to heat 1 pound of water to 1 degree fahrenheit. This will normally be a higher figure than it’s Watt equivalent. Watts is another way of measuring heat output. 1 Watt = 3.41BTUs BTUS = WATTS multiplied by 3.41 WATTS = BTUS divided by 3.41 Importantly, we display both figures in the specifications of all of our heated towel rails to make it easy for you. What are the heated towel rails made of?All of our heated towel rails are made from high quality mild steel and covered in a chrome plating and these are the components:- 5 microns Matt Nickel - 20 Microns Bright Nickel - 25 microns Acidic Copper - 3 microns Chromium The motion system used to install the chrome plating in addition to the rigorous salt spray testing ensures that the surface of the towel rails are both high in quality and very resistant to corrosion, even in the welded joints. Do your heated towel rails conform to European requirements?Yes, all of our heated towel rails conform and their outputs verified to BSEN442, which is the European standard for radiators and heated towel rails. This is required by law for any retailer selling towel radiators in the UK. All of our heated towel rails are high pressure tested to 152.3 PSI (10.5 bar) to perform at a maximum working pressure of 116 PSI (8 bar) at a maximum temperature of 95°C, so you know you can buy and install your towel rail with confidence. How does your price match policy work?Find the same product cheaper elsewhere, contact us, show us proof and we’ll match it!How can I contact you?Telephone: 0141 227 6763 (Phone Lines open Mon-Fri 8.30am-5.30pm)Voicemail service out of hours Email: info@chrometowelrails.com |
